What is fleece fabric?

Fleece is often associated with fluffy sheep’s wool. But nowadays, most fleece fabrics are created using polyester or polycotton blends. This makes it soft, lightweight and gentle on the skin. Most importantly, fleece provides an extra level of insulation, giving it a warm and cosy feel.

There are different types of fleece fabric available, including anti-pill fleece (this doesn’t bobble), teddy fleece and microfleece. It has many positive qualities, which make it great for warm jumpers, quilts, and home decor sewing projects. These include:

Caring for fleece fabric

To keep the soft texture of fleece, this fabric needs to be turned inside-out and washed at low temperatures or on a delicate cycle. As it’s fast drying, a short spin should be enough to get most of the moisture out. Plus, this helps to keep bobbles at bay.
